Scarves might just be my favorite accessory. If I had to shop for just one thing for the rest of my life (why would someone do that do me?) it might be scarves. Scarves don’t judge you, they don’t miraculously shrink when you’re pregnant, and they have a tendency to stick around. But how to tie a scarf? That’s another story! We asked our friends for their favorite methods and came up with 13 different scarf tying ideas. Some are classics and some will be your new favorite thing.
1. French Knot
I discovered this French twist last winter and still love it! Just fold the scarf in half put it around your shoulders. Take one loose end piece and pull it over and under the scarf loop. Take the second end piece and go under and over the same loop.
2. Knotted Necklace
Wrap the scarf behind your neck. Take one end and wrap it around your hand. Pull it through to make a loose knot. Take the other scarf end and pull it through the side knot, going under the knot loop and then over.
3. The Necklace
Fold a long scarf if half lengthwise. Grab the diagonal ends and knot them together. Put it over your neck, then twist it and loop again.
4. Double sided twist
Put two of your favorite scarves back to back. Loop once around your neck and turn the fabric so that you see both sides.
5. Scarf Wrap
The easiest way to wear a scarf! Just wrap it around your shoulders.
6. Cozy neck wrap
Take a long scarf and loop it twice around your neck. Tie the ends in a half knot and tuck them up under the scarf loops.
7. Neck Wrap
Loop a long scarf once around your neck. Make a half knot with the long ends, up near your neck. Pull the fabric of the neck loop down over the half knot.
8. Knotted Shawl
A slightly more advanced version of the wrap. Put the scarf around your shoulders like a shawl and make a half knot in the back with the ends. Pull the ends tight and up high on your back. Pull the scarf fabric down to cover the ends.
9. Classic Loop
Put the scarf around your neck and pull one end down slightly longer. Wrap that end around your neck and let both ends hang.
Take a long scarf and put it behind your neck. Tie a loose half knot with the ends. Take the right end and cross it over the left then pull it under the scarf loop and over. Let it hang down and grab the left end (now on the right side) and cross it over the other end and pull it up and over. Repeat until the ends are too short to loop. Pull the braid to loosen it and then knot the short end pieces together.
11. Rolled loop
Wrap a scarf once around your neck. Take each scarf end up and over the neck loop.
12. Double Loop
Loop the scarf twice around your neck. Take one end over and down through the neck loops and tie ends together.
13. Classic Pull Through
It’s a classic because it’s so easy and looks so good! Fold the scarf in half. Put it behind your neck and bring both ends to the front. Pull the loose ends through the loop.
