Miranda kerr flirts with florals in dolce gabbana

A nun was praying inside a Roman Catholic church in New York City when she was harassed by a man who said he 'didn't believe' in her religion and then threatened to kill her, police said. 

Sister Maria Amador, 49, was praying for her mother in a pew at the Co-Cathedral of St Joseph in Brooklyn, when the man walked in around 2pm.

Surveillance footage in the vestibule of the church that was released by the Diocese of Brooklyn, shows the shirtless man pacing back and forth.

The man, who was wearing only a pair of shorts and sneakers, is then seen walking up to Sister Maria. She told police the man said: 'I don't believe in this because you don't help the poor.' 

'When I saw him I thought he was a little strange and maybe he needed help,' she told the New York Daily News

Sister Maria said she tried to ignore the man, who is believed to be homeless, until he got closer to her and asked her to repeat what he said. 

When she wouldn't repeat what he said, the man became furious and threatened to kill her.

Sister Maria tried to make eye contact with another woman in the church, when the man said: 'She can't help you. I'm going to kill you.' 

She then ran down the aisle of the church screaming for help. 

The man, who was wearing only a pair of shorts and sneakers, is then seen placing his foot on a pew as he says to Sister Maria: 'I don't believe in this because you don't help the poor'

Sister Maria said she tried to ignore the man until he got closer to her and asked her to repeat what he said. When she wouldn't repeat what he said, the man became furious and threatened to kill her

Sister Maria then made a run for it and yelled out for help. After watching the incident on the video she said she believes her faith made her a target. 'Of course, it's a hate crime,' she said. Police said the hate crimes task force is investigating

'I thought, maybe this is my last day... in that moment,' she said. 

Alejandro Zuleta, 38, was practicing on his organ on the second floor when he heard the commotion downstairs. 

'I shouted to the guy, "You have to leave, you cannot harass people inside the church!"' Zuleta told the Daily News. 

The suspect then fled on foot. 

After watching the incident on the video Sister Maria said she believes her faith made her a target.

'Of course, it's a hate crime,' she said. Police said the hate crimes task force is investigating. 

Sister Maria, who is the is the Mother Superior and one of the founders of her order, the Preachers of Christ and Mary, was not physically injured in the incident. Pictured is the church where the incident took place

Although, the city's hate crime unit is investigating the incident, the man is still believed to be homeless.

In recent years, homelessness in New York City has reached the highest levels since the Great Depression in the 1930s.

In April alone, there were 61,277 homeless people, including 15,328 homeless families with 23,000 homeless children, sleeping each night in the New York City municipal shelter system.

Over the course of the city's fiscal year 2016, more than 127,652 different homeless men, women, and children slept in the New York City municipal shelter system. 

Authorities are asking the public to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS if they have any information on the incident.
